Reading comprehension skills and vocabulary knowledge are strengthened through reading and enjoying classic, authentic literature and poetry throughout the year. Writing Students learn to summarize written material and transform their thoughts into words using the Institute for Excellence in Writing’s structure and style writing lessons and creative journaling. Handwriting Students learn to form letters using the D'Nealian Handwriting method, which provides a continuous, slanted script that easily transitions from manuscript to cursive. Spelling The All About Spelling series uses a multi-sensory approach—auditory, visual, and kinesthetic–combined with consistent reinforcement to ensure that students retain reliable spelling rules and how to apply them in daily writing.
