Learn More About Wyoming’s Education Savings Account (ESA) Program

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Overview

Wyoming’s Education Savings Account (ESA) program offers funding to eligible students that can help cover a variety of educational expenses, including private school tuition, required supplies, and more!

  • Important Note: The Wyoming ESA is currently facing legal challenges. While these challenges are not currently preventing the program from operating, they may affect its operations in the future. Families are encouraged to visit the Wyoming ESA website to learn more about the legal challenges and potential impacts.
  • Eligible expenses include tuition and fees for private schools or nonpublic online learning programs. This includes tuition and fees for participating in online Christian schools such as Enlightium Academy.
  • Enlightium Academy’s team can coordinate with both your family and the Wyoming ESA so that your tuition can be paid directly by the program.
  • At Enlightium Academy, this scholarship can be used to offset or completely cover a premium teacher support package at Enlightium Academy, such as the Online Program with Expanded Support. Additionally, funds may be able to roll over to the next school year, allowing a family to choose different programs each year (such as the Online Program one year and Enlightium Prep Online Program the next).
  • Certain eligibility requirements must be met to qualify.
  • Applications for the 2026-2027 school year were open from July 6 to August 6, 2026.
    • Families who applied during this window can review the “Your Next Steps” section below.
    • Families who were unable to apply during this window should visit the Wyoming ESA website to find the application window for the 2027-2028 school year or sign up for updates from the program.

Your Next Steps

If you have already applied for Wyoming’s ESA program and been accepted, you can use those funds at Enlightium Academy by following these steps:

  1. Log in to your Odyssey account and select “Enlightium Academy” as your student’s school.
  2. Enroll at Enlightium Academy.
  3. Email Enlightium’s Billing Department at billing@enlightiumacademy.com to inform them that you are using the Wyoming ESA and ask to have your student’s enrollment verified in Odyssey.
  4. After your student’s enrollment is verified in the Odyssey portal, you will receive an email from billing@enlightiumacademy.com with your total tuition and fees for the school year, as well as the due dates for each payment.
  5. With this information, you can log in to your Odyssey account and submit payment for the first quarter of the tuition.
  6. Enlightium’s Billing Department will notify you when the payment is received from the ESA.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much will I receive?

The total ESA amount is subject to change annually. Students receiving funds for the 2026-2027 school year may receive up to $7,000 over the course of the year.

Will my tuition be scheduled differently if I use the Wyoming ESA?

Yes. The Wyoming ESA distributes funds on a quarterly basis, and payments to schools are made directly through Odyssey. Payment amounts and due dates will be set by Enlightium Academy to accommodate this schedule.

What if the Wyoming ESA doesn’t cover all of my student’s tuition?

Enlightium offers some tuition packages or services that may only be partially covered by the Wyoming ESA. The parent is responsible for any balance that may remain after applying all ESA payments for the school year.

Since the primary parent on the account assumes full responsibility for any amount not covered by the ESA, parents are encouraged to confirm how much the program will cover prior to selecting a tuition package.

If your student’s tuition and fees for the school year are greater than the typical ESA amount, or if there is a remaining balance after the final quarterly payment is made, you must make arrangements with Enlightium’s Billing Department for the remaining balance.

Do I still need to notify my local school district if I am using the ESA program?

Yes. Students must be formally withdrawn from public school, and parents must promptly notify the local school district of their intent to use the ESA program once the student is accepted into the ESA program.

Does my student need to take a standardized assessment?

Yes. Students using the ESA program are required to take a nationally norm-referenced assessment or take the state assessment at their local school. Enlightium Academy administers the Iowa Complete to students in grades K-8, and offers guidance for college preparatory assessments for students in grades 9-12.

Enlightium generally provides Iowa Complete assessment scores within three weeks of testing. Parents must then report those test scores to the Wyoming Department of Education within two weeks.

What if we decide to return to public school in the middle of the school year?

Students who return to their public schools will not be able to participate in the Wyoming ESA. Families returning to public school should visit the Wyoming ESA website for more information regarding withdrawal from the ESA program.

Am I still eligible for tuition discounts if I use the Wyoming ESA?

Yes. Enlightium’s standard tuition discounts can be applied to ESA recipients if they meet the eligibility requirements for the discount.

How can I order books for the Book-Based Program using the Wyoming ESA?

Enlightium Academy will email families a list of required books for the Book-Based Program. As of July 20, 2026, BJU Press is not listed as an approved Wyoming ESA provider. However, families may be able to request reimbursement for book purchases. See below for more details about reimbursement.

Can I spend my own money and be reimbursed from the Wyoming ESA?

In very limited circumstances, families may be able to request reimbursement for items that are not available for purchase through Odyssey. Before making a purchase, please consult the ESA’s Pre-Approval and Reimbursement guidelines. Enlightium Academy cannot guarantee approval or timing of reimbursements.

Out-of-pocket payments for products or services that are available through Odyssey are unlikely to be reimbursed.
