Overview
Summary | Students build early literacy through letters, sounds, writing, colors, stories, and fine motor skills. |
Description | PreK4 Language Arts focuses on building a strong foundation in early literacy through letter recognition, phonics, writing, and comprehension. Students learn to recognize, trace, and form all letters Aa–Zz while identifying letter sounds, blending sounds, and generating rhyming and beginning-sound words. Name recognition and writing progress from tracing first letters to writing full names independently. Fine motor development is supported through cutting, folding, gluing, drawing shapes, and practicing foundational writing strokes. Students explore colors, shapes, environmental print, and simple concepts such as syllables, compound words, and sentence structure. Listening comprehension is strengthened through daily read-alouds, poems, fables, and discussions, with opportunities to answer questions, retell stories, and complete open-ended sentences. Children express ideas through dictation, invented spelling, illustrations, and simple storytelling. Phonemic awareness develops as students discriminate sounds, blend phonemes, and identify beginning sounds in spoken words. These skills prepare students for confident reading, writing, and communication. |
