Holistic Approach to Education Curriculum Changes
Overview
| Enlightium Academy believes in educating the “whole child” by placing a focus on their spiritual, physical, social, emotional, and academic development. - Our curriculum and instructional approach are centered around the conviction that students should be educated holistically according to God’s image. A student’s journey crucially involves the mind, but it must address their physical, social, and emotional life as well.
- To guide our education of the “whole child,” we have established a set of Expected Student Outcomes (ESO) that detail the ways in which we hope to impact students.
|
What Does This Mean for Students?
| - Where possible, Enlightium’s faculty limits the number of projects, unit tests, and unnecessary ‘busy work’ across all of the core courses (Bible, English, history, math, and science). In doing so, we hope to create margin for students in their days and weeks.
- With increased margin, students will have more time to ensure mastery learning in their courses and more opportunities to participate in the various non-academic offerings at Enlightium that support their spiritual, social, emotional, and physical development.
|
A New Schedule
| - Enlightium provides students with an optional weekly scheduleto ensure less overlap of school activities and more structure for students. The weekly schedule will:
- Designate times for live sessions in each core subject to eliminate overlap.
- Designate time for social activities, student chapel services, Bible studies, and open office hours.
- Help students create a weekly rhythm of completing schoolwork and engaging with their peers.
