Advanced Placement (AP) Courses (Grades 9-12)
TABLE OF CONTENTS
AP Program Overview

| - Advanced Placement (AP)® courses enable students to pursue college-level courses while still in high school.
- Enlightium teachers help students work through AP courses to develop and apply the skills, abilities, and content knowledge they will need in college.
- AP courses are available to students in Enlightium Academy Online and Enlightium Prep.
- AP courses are not available to part-time students.
- Due to the extensive workload associated with each AP course, students who wish to take multiple AP courses should consider taking no more than two AP courses simultaneously, unless approved by their Enlightium counselor. Each AP course is modeled after a comparable college course.
- AP courses are accepted by most two- and four-year colleges and universities worldwide. Universities in more than 60 countries recognize AP exam scores in the admission process and/or award credit and placement for qualifying scores. Performing well on an AP exam means more than just the successful completion of a course. Students are encouraged to contact admissions offices at their colleges of interest to verify that AP course credit will be accepted.

AP Timeframes

| - Enlightium Academy does not administer AP exams. If students would like to take the AP exam, they need to register with a local school or testing center, typically in August or September, in order to test with them in May. See the section below for more on AP exams.
- Annual schedule:
- The deadline to start an AP class with Enlightium is September 15th.
- After September 15th, students will be allowed to start AP classes with Enlightium only if they are transferring in from a different school where they were already taking the AP class. Additionally, students will be required to submit a syllabus from their previous school indicating the content that was already covered prior to enrolling with Enlightium.
- AP classes have a completion deadline of April 30th each school year.
- AP classes may be scheduled to have an end-of-traditional-school-year deadline with a written and signed parent request. The request must indicate that the student will not take the AP exam or acknowledge that not all the content will be covered by the AP exam date.
- AP classes CANNOT be extended into the summer. If students do not complete the course by the traditional end-of-school-year deadline, they will be required to reduce to the standard curriculum.

Dropping a Course

| - Students will have a 14-day trial to determine if they would like to remain enrolled in the class; families should contact their counselor immediately if they would like to drop a course.
