Homeschool Record Requirements for High School Transcripts

TABLE OF CONTENTS

High School (Grades 9-12)

High school transfer credits are a part of a student's official transcript. To award homeschool transfer credit, Enlightium must have sufficient evidence that the coursework was completed successfully and that mastery of the subject was demonstrated.

If your student completed high school coursework through homeschooling before enrolling at Enlightium Academy, we will typically request work samples to evaluate the coursework for transfer credit.

However, if the homeschool transcript has been reviewed and signed by a school official who verified that the listed courses were successfully completed, work samples are generally not required.

What Qualifies as a Work Sample?

Work samples should demonstrate your student’s original work and understanding of course material and reflect the academic level claimed (e.g., high school-level work for high school credit).

Examples of acceptable work samples include:

  • Completed worksheets (completed by the student)
  • Tests or quizzes
  • Essays or research papers
  • Projects with written explanations or student-created components
  • Lab reports
  • Written responses
  • Math assignments showing problem-solving steps
  • Other assignments that demonstrate the student's learning

Work samples should clearly show the student's own work, such as:

  • Written answers
  • Problem-solving steps
  • Explanations
  • Analysis
  • Calculations
  • Project development

What Does Not Qualify as a Work Sample?

The following items cannot be used to evaluate transfer credit:

  • Blank worksheets
  • Answer keys only
  • Instructional materials or curriculum pages
  • Notes copied directly from a textbook or presentation
  • Parent-created summaries of what was taught
  • Grade reports or report cards without accompanying student work

The goal is to demonstrate mastery and independent student engagement with the material.

Submitting Work Samples

Submit three (3) work samples for each course listed on the homeschool high school transcript.

Keep in mind:

  • Each work sample must come from a different assignment, test, project, or activity.
  • Multiple pages or questions from the same assignment count as one work sample, not multiple.

Example:
Three completed questions from the same math worksheet count as one work sample, not three.

For each course:

  • Combine all three work samples into one file (PDF preferred). You can do this using tools such as ilovepdf.com.
  • Make sure every page is clear, legible, and in the correct order.
  • If submitting photos, ensure they are well-lit and easy to read.

Each page should include:

  • Student's full name
  • Grade level when the work was completed
  • Course or subject name

If the submitted work samples do not provide enough information to evaluate the coursework, Enlightium may request additional documentation before determining whether transfer credit can be awarded.
