Loom

What is Loom?

  • Loom is a third-party platform that you will be using to record video responses for projects and discussions and submit them to your teacher.

  • You will need to set up your own personal Loom account that you will use to record your videos. For those of you who might be a bit nervous or anxious about recording videos, your Loom videos will be private.

  • You and your teachers are the only ones who will see them.

  • Since you will own your own account, you will have control over who sees your videos and how long they remain in your account.

How Do I Access and Use Loom?

  • Click here to go to Loom’s home page. From here, you will create an account.

  • You can either sign up with an existing Google or Apple account or by using an email address. **If you do not have an email address, try asking a parent.

  • Be sure to choose a password that you will easily remember. If you forget your password, your teacher will not be able to recover it for you. Remember that this is your account. Your password must have an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, a number, and a symbol.

  • Follow the steps for verifying your email address.

  • You can choose to download Loom as a Chrome extension, or a desktop application (recommended for those who work on a computer). There is also a Loom mobile app.

How to Record a Video in Loom

  • In Loom, you have the option to record with video and audio or with audio only.

  • To record with video and audio, choose the Cam Only option. This will activate the Loom camera. *Note that Loom will ask for permission to access your camera and microphone. You must choose “Allow” in order to record.

  • To record with audio only, choose the “Screen Only” option. Ordinarily, this option is for recording whatever is on your screen at the time. If you want to record with a simple background instead, click on the “Recording Canvas” button and choose a background. Loom will display that background in your video.

  • One of the easiest ways to learn Loom is to simply play around with it. It is your own personal account, so you don’t have to worry about making mistakes that anyone will see.

How to Share a Loom Video

  • Make sure to name your Loom video after the assignment for which it is being created. That will make it easy for you to locate.

  • Copy the link to the video by hovering over the video and clicking the “Copy Link” button.

  • Paste that link into the Ignitia writer’s box.
