Progress Tips For Catching Up

If your student is falling behind in schoolwork, here are some great tips to help them catch up:

  1. Use the Snowball Method: Encourage your student to complete one assignment in each course. Then, they can complete extra assignments in in the class that they are closest to being caught up. This helps students celebrate small goals as they get caught up on one subject at a time while still making progress in their other courses.
  2. Work During Available Breaks: You can view the days that Ignitia will be available in the printable calendar.
  3. Create a Schedule: If your student is spending little time on assignments or having trouble with time management, it may be helpful to schedule "mandatory" school hours. Please make sure to include frequent breaks. Check out Enlightium’s daily schedule sample.
  4. Remove Distractions: Remove any distractions from the room your student is using as a classroom, such as a TV, a cell phone, video games, etc. Read 6 Thoughts About Homeschool Organization and Designing a Learning Environment.
  5. Create a Daily Check-Off List: Have your student show you how many assignments were completed each day by looking at Ignitia together at the end of the school day.
  6. Use a Parent Portal: Enlightium’s team can provide you with access to a Parent Portal. This allows you to keep track of your student's grades and progress and to monitor your student’s completed and upcoming assignments anytime. The Parent Portal provides less course information than the Student Portal, but it does allow you to check in on your student’s progress without kicking them out of Ignitia.
  7. Check Progress Summaries: Enlighitum sends out progress summaries with details about how many assignments were turned in, how many are overdue, etc. Please be sure to read these in detail so you are aware of your student's status.
  8. Check the Time Spent on Assignments: Check how long your student is spending on assignments and quizzes. The goal is to spend 20-45 minutes per assignment. If they are spending less than 20 minutes, encourage your students to spend more time reviewing the lesson to make sure they comprehend the material before moving forward.
  9. Utilize Teacher Support: We recommend having your students reach out to their teachers to get additional help.
  1. Sapphire students: Teachers are available during class hours.
  2. Silver, Silver+, Gold, Diamond students: Teachers are available to answer questions. Students can use the HELP BOX in Ignitia to initiate contact with teachers.
  3. Bronze and homeschool students: The parent acts as the teacher.
  1. Utilize Livebinder: Enlightium’s LiveBinder is a library of teacher-curated resources covering the material in the curriculum. Resources are categorized by grade level, course, and unit.
