Seal of Biliteracy (Grades 9-12)
Seal of Biliteracy
| - Enlightium offers the Seal of Biliteracy to Enlightium seniors who have attained an advanced level of proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in another language in addition to English.
- Students in grades 9-12 can pursue the Seal of Biliteracy, but it will not be reflected on a transcript until the completion of grade 12.
- The Seal of Biliteracy is placed on Enlightium’s graduate transcript indicating that the student has earned the seal and on the award certificate.

Levels of Proficiency
| - Novice proficiency means basic skills are acquired, yet there is very limited real-world functional proficiency. Novice proficiency is used primarily in academic settings. Students can earn two credits toward graduation requirements.
- Intermediate proficiency means a practical amount of real-world applications and fluency are acquired. Intermediate proficiency indicates the use of a language effectively in a community and academic setting.
- Advanced proficiency means a student is fluent in the real world. Advanced proficiency is required in many professional careers, depending on context, and is acquired in post-secondary education.

How to Request a Seal of Biliteracy
| - Contact your counselor if you believe your student would qualify for the seal of biliteracy
- If your counselor approves, take applicable world language courses in high school (at least two must be taken in high school), and to satisfy the biliteracy requirement, the student may take a test in 11 or 12 grade through Avant, or an approved alternative. Note that your family will need to pay any fees to take the assessment.
- If your student passes the assessment, they can have the Seal of Biliteracy added to the transcript, inform your counselor, and provide the assessment results.
- Note that your family will need to pay a $100 fee to have the Seal of Biliteracy added to the final transcript; the fee is waived for students in the Diamond and Sapphire Live packages.
