Student Council (Grades 6-12)

What is the Student Council?

  • Enlightium Academy's Student Council provides students with the opportunity to build and strengthen communication and leadership skills in a safe and supportive environment.
  • The mission of the Enlightium Academy Student Council is to provide an atmosphere of unity within the student body, causing a more enriched online school experience while building responsible leaders within our school community, and promoting the values that represent godly character in all students. We will accomplish our mission through leading by example in the eSocial platform, engaging students through contests, and by being respectful, responsible, and safe.

Running for Student Council Fulfills the Student Social Opportunity

  • Running for Student Council counts as fulfilling the Student Social Opportunity, even if the student is not elected into the Student Council
  • Late registration is not available for running for the Student Council
  • Each student who registers for a social event receives a $5 gift card; max one $5 gift card per student. Students who meet attendance and participation requirements are entered into a drawing for a $50 gift card at the end of the year.
  • Attendance requirements are dependent on when a student enrolled in Enlightium Academy
    • Quarter 1 enrollment - students must submit a campaign video and poster
    • Quarter 2, 3, and 4 enrollment - students do not have the option to run for Student Council

Requirements to run for Student Council

To run for student council, the student must be:
  • Currently enrolled full-time at Enlightium Academy
  • In grades 6-12
  • Have no behavioral instances on file
  • Have no major progress issues such as low progress probation

Open Student Council positions:

  • President (open to students in grade 12); see duties below
  • Activities Director (open to students in grades 6-12); see duties below
  • 10th Grade Executive Cabinet Member (open to students in grade 10); see duties below

To run for the open Student Council positions a student must

  • Submit a campaign video
  • Submit a campaign poster

Timeline for running for Student Council

  • October 2, 2020: The Student Council Coordinator will email registrants with their next steps
  • October 18, 2020, at 11:59 pm PT: Deadline for submission of campaign video and poster
  • October 21-23, 2020: Enlightium student body general election
  • October 27, 2020: Enlightium administration announces results of the election

Student Council Positions

President (One-year term)

Any incoming 12th-grade student enrolled at Enlightium for at least one semester prior to the electoral process with which the Student Council is affiliated is eligible to be elected as the Student Council President.
  • Preside at all meetings of the Student Council
  • Sign all letters, reports, and other communications of the Student Council.
  • Perform all duties corresponding to the office of President.
  • Have other such duties as are prescribed by the Student Council.
  • Aid in the nomination of the next president
  • Oversee an eSocial group.

Vice President (One-year term)

Any incoming 10-12th-grade student enrolled at Enlightium for at least one semester prior to the electoral process with which the Student Council is affiliated is eligible to be elected as the Student Council Vice President.
  • Represent the President in assigned duties.
  • Substitute for the President in his/her absence.
  • Aid in announcements to the student body.
  • Aid in the monitoring of events created by the Student Council.
  • Oversee an eSocial group.

Secretary (Two-year term)

Any incoming 10th–12th-grade student enrolled at Enlightium for at least one semester prior to the electoral process with which the Student Council is affiliated is eligible to be elected as the Student Council Secretary.
  • Keep minutes of all regular and special meetings of the council.
  • Transmit true and correct copies of the minutes of such meetings to members of the Student Council for approval.
  • Maintain custody of records of the Student Council.
  • Aid with a register of the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of each member of the Student Council, the chairpersons of the school advisory committees, and others with whom the Student Council has regular dealings, as furnished by those persons.
  • Perform other such duties as are assigned by the chairperson or the Student Council.
  • Oversee an eSocial group.

Treasurer (Two-year term)

Any incoming 10th–12th-grade student enrolled at Enlightium for at least one semester prior to the electoral process with which the Student Council is affiliated is eligible to be elected as the Student Council Treasurer.
  • Organize, facilitate, and report all fundraising activities.
  • Keep an accurate record of all funds and expenditures.
  • Create procedural manuals during and after all fundraising events.
  • Provide a Treasurer’s report at all regular meetings of the Student Council.
  • Oversee an eSocial group.

Information Specialist (Two-year term)

Any incoming high school student enrolled at Enlightium for at least one semester prior to the electoral process with which the Student Council is affiliated is eligible to be elected as the Student Council Information Specialist.

  • Work synchronically with Enlightium’s Communications Director planning, organizing, and presenting formal and informal communication to the student body and public.
  • Provide all public notices and communication in accordance with these bylaws.
  • Be comfortably familiar with multi-media platforms.

Activities Director (Two-year term)

Any incoming high school student enrolled at Enlightium for at least one semester prior to the electoral process with which the Student Council is affiliated is eligible to be elected as the Student Council Activities Director.
  • Organize and oversee all Student Council sponsored Activities/Contests.
  • Oversee an eSocial group.
  • Have such duties as are prescribed by the Student Council.

10th Grade Executive Cabinet Member (One-year term)

Any incoming sophomore enrolled at Enlightium for at least one semester prior to the electoral process with which the Student Council is affiliated is eligible to be elected as a Student Council Class Representative.
  • Oversee class eSocial group.
  • Report to the Student Council class opinions and input.
  • Be a liaison between the Student Council and class.
  • Have other such duties as are prescribed by the Student Council.

9th Grade Class Representatives (One-year term)

Any incoming freshman enrolled at Enlightium for at least one semester prior to the electoral process with which the Student Council is affiliated is eligible to be elected as a Student Council Class Representative.
  • Oversee class eSocial group.
  • Report to the Student Council class opinions and input.
  • Be a liaison between the Student Council and class.
  • Have other such duties as are prescribed by the Student Council.

8th Grade Class Representatives (One-year term)

Any incoming middle school student enrolled at Enlightiumfor at least one semester prior to the electoral process with which the Student Council is affiliated is eligible to be elected as a Student Council Class Representative.

  • Oversee class eSocial group.
  • Report to the Student Council class opinions and input.
  • Be a liaison between the Student Council and class.
  • Have other such duties as are prescribed by the Student Council.

7th Grade Class Representatives (One-year term)

7th Grade Class Representatives (One-year term); Collin (2018–19) Any incoming middle school student enrolled at Enlightium for at least one semester prior to the electoral process with which the Student Council is affiliated is eligible to be elected as a Student Council Class Representative.

  • Oversee class eSocial group.
  • Report to the Student Council class opinions and input.
  • Be a liaison between the Student Council and class.
  • Have other such duties as are prescribed by the Student Council.

Executive Cabinet Members (One-year term)

Any incoming 10th–12th-grade student enrolled at Enlightium for at least one semester prior to the electoral process with which the Student Council is affiliated is eligible to be elected as a Student Council Cabinet Member. 
  • Oversee and assist assigned middle school class representative(s). 
  • Oversee class eSocial group. 
  • Have such duties as are prescribed by the Student Council.
