Enlightium Academy Support

ELL (English Language Learners) Program

Overview

  • Enlightium Academy’s English Language Learners (ELL) Program offers students whose first language is not English the opportunity to receive support in English language learning through modified courses, targeted English language practice and lessons, and instruction by an ELL-certified instructor.
  • This program includes lessons designed to build students’ language skills and allow them the chance to seek help with writing assignments from other courses. Students will also receive resources to build study strategies, writing skills, and vocabulary acquisition.

Who Can Benefit?

  • The ELL program is intended to support students who are intermediate, advanced, or proficient language learners. It will not provide sufficient instruction for beginning or advanced beginning students to learn the basics of the English language. It is intended to provide support, not to take the place of a beginning language course.
  • The ELL program is available to students in the 8th to 12th grade levels.

How to Participate

  • Eligibility for the ELL program is voluntary, and families who would like to participate in this program should indicate their student’s language learner level on the registration form. If a student realizes that he or she would benefit from the help this program provides after starting his or her school work, please communicate with a counselor. In some cases, teachers may also recommend that a student participate in this program.
  • Students participating in the ELL program will be enrolled in an ELL English course, which combines content from regular English courses with lessons that target the following language learning areas:
    • Reading
    • Writing
    • Grammar
    • Vocabulary Acquisition
    • Study Strategies
    • The Composition Process
  • The number of lessons in an ELL English course does not exceed the number of lessons in a regular English course.
