Enlightium Academy Support

Math Olympics (Grades 3-8)

What are the Math Olympics?

  • Enlightium Academy partners with the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) to provide students who have been recognized as top performers in mathematical computation and reasoning the opportunity to compete in the Math Olympics with their peers from around the nation.
  • Students will join a remote session with an Enlightium math teacher and test their abilities in either Computation or Mathematical Reasoning.
  • Registration is now closed for the 2022-2023 school year.
  • To fulfill the attendance requirement for the Math Olympics, a student must participate in all mandatory practices and testing based on how far they advance in the tournament. The mandatory dates are TBA.

Math Olympics Fulfill the Student Social Opportunity

  • Registration for Math Olympics is closed for the 2022-2023 year.
  • Participation in the Math Olympics counts as fulfilling the Student Social Opportunity.
  • Students who meet attendance and participation requirements are entered into a drawing for a $50 gift card at the end of the year.
  • Attendance requirements are dependent on when a student enrolled in Enlightium Academy:
    • Quarter 1 enrollment - student’s participation is based on the requirements listed above.
    • Quarter 2, 3, and 4 enrollment - students do not have the option to participate in Math Olympics.

Academic Prerequisites

To register for the Math Olympics, a student must:

  • Have at least a B or higher in their math course.

Technical Requirements

To register for the Math Olympics, a student must:

  1. Be able to use Zoom.us on their computer. PCs and Macs tend to work well with Zoom.us.
  2. Have an external webcam, not a webcam that is built into the computer. The testing teacher will need to monitor the student and Enlightium teachers found that external webcams are better for this.
    1. You can find an example of an external webcam here
  3. Be able to print the testing sheets ahead of testing days. Enlightium teachers found that there were fewer issues when students wrote their answers on an official test sheet than on scrap paper.

Testing Days Requirements

Testing Days:

  • September 19-23, 2022: Student Social Week
  • November 16th, 2022, 2:00 - 2:30 pm PT: Round 1 Test (Try-Out Test) - Students are provided a test through Ignitia and have the weekend to complete it
  • January 2-6, 2023, 2:00 - 2:30 pm PT: One 30-minute practice over Zoom in preparation for Round 2 Test (specific date and time TBD by teacher)
  • January 18-19, 2023, 2:00 - 2:30 pm PT: Round 2 Test
  • February 6-10, 2023, 2:00 - 2:30 pm PT: One 30-minute practice over Zoom in preparation for Round 3 Test (specific date and time TBD by teacher)

On testing days, students will need:

  1. A computer to access the tests
  2. A webcam that is not built into the computer
  3. Paper and pencil
  4. An adult (typically a parent or guardian) to ensure honest behavior.
    • ACSI requires two adults to monitor the student during test-taking; we meet this requirement by having an Enlightium teacher and parent/ present with the student during the entire testing period.
  5. A method to turn in the solutions. This can be done either with a physical scanner, a document scanning app on your phone, or by taking a picture with your phone.
    • After the test, the solutions must be emailed to the testing teacher.
